Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (SUMS), founded in 1946, is one of the oldest medical universities in Iran. It was first established as the “Institute of Health for Higher Education”. Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (SUMS) is responsible for training students in medical areas, but also manages all public hospitals, clinics and healthcare centers in Fars Province in southern Iran. SUMS provides both undergraduate and graduate programs in 17 schools including, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Paramedical Sciences, Nursing and Midwifery, Rehabilitation Sciences, Advanced Medical Sciences and Technologies, Health, Management and Medical Informatics, Nutrition and Food sciences. SUMS also runs 63 research centers, 41 public hospitals and 6 research incubators. There are over 9 000 students at SUMS every year.
